Pearce Board of Directors Announces Executive Director
Pearce Community Center Board of Directors has announced Margaret “Maggie” Butterfield accepted the position of Executive Director, replacing retiring director Ben Alvarez, effective April 20.
“We are excited to have Maggie on-board with us,” said Ty Fennell, President of the Pearce Board of Directors. “She is a natural leader who will bring energy and continued professionalism to the Executive Director position at Pearce. Maggie understands the importance of community and member satisfaction and will embrace these opportunities as our new director.”
On April 20, Butterfield will assume responsibility for directing the organization’s growth as well as executing the strategic plan the Center completed last fall. She will also ensure Pearce continues to provide the community a safe, fun environment where people can feel better.
During her six-year career managing all aspects of locally owned retail company Running Central, she helped lead the company to be named one of the top 50 running stores in the US for three years in a row. She was also named one of the Top 25 Women in Leadership by WEEK News 25 in 2015.
Butterfield earned a Master of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. While at U of I, she was a member and team captain of the women’s track and field team and women’s cross-country team. Additional leadership positions have included co-head coach of Fun and Smart Training (FAST) and assistant coach of the Bradley University women’s cross country and track teams.
“Her strong managerial experience, program development, and marketing knowledge made her a top candidate to fill the role as Executive Director,” said Gwen Hemstreet, Pearce board member and chair of the committee responsible for filling this critical leadership position. “But what pushed her to the top for me was her passion for the health and wellness field coupled with her interest in community involvement and betterment. Maggie has demonstrated her commitment to the community with her involvement in the annual St. Jude Tribute to the Stars gala committee and Crittenton Center fundraising committee.”
“Having managed a locally owned specialty running store, I completely understand the importance of community. I look forward to working with Chillicothe and the surrounding communities,” said Butterfield.
Born and raised in Brimfield, Butterfield understands and embraces the values and principles of smaller communities. She is one of eight children, and is now raising two of her own, Hattie age 4, and Nellie age 1, with husband Nick, a Peoria County Deputy.
